July 2022: I’m currently enjoying my second Artist Residency in Germany, this time at the Antonie-Leins House in Horb am Neckar. It’s been a busy time! My days are filled with inspiration, discovery, and various creative pursuits. One idea that I had was to create small clay figures and place them in various locations around the village where people can find them and take them home. Some of the small figures, or figurines, might even be inspired by actual people that I’ve met during my visit. So from inception to reception this is a wonderful community-based project!

The clay figures are small, rough, impressionistic, fragile, gestural forms; creative oddities designed to surprise and delight. The clay will not be fired so if a piece isn’t taken indoors it will eventually disintegrate and return to the earth, which is sort of a statement on the impermanence of human existence.

Here in the last week of July I am placing nearly two dozen of these little sculptures in the village of Horb. I encourage everyone who finds one of the pieces to leave a comment at the bottom of the respective page. Tell me where you found it, how you felt or what you thought at the discovery, and if you’re willing to give your figure a good home…Thanks!

NOTE: More Figures will be added to this page as they are placed in the village!
