New Friends

My new roommate arrived last night! Her name is Gamze Zorlu. She’s a brilliant Painter from Istanbul, Turkey. Her paintings feature meticulously detailed renderings of architecture in a collage/montage format with nature surrounding. Check out her work at Www.gamzezorlu.com.

Jamie McGhee arrived just a few days ago. She’s a very talented Writer from Charlotte, North Carolina. She is currently writing a novel. I don’t want to give anything away about the subject matter – but look for it on the best-seller list!

It’s exhilarating to be surrounded by sooo much talent – especially when the Artists are smart, and funny, and all around wonderful human beings!!

Pretty much everything here is closed on Sundays – including supermarkets. That’s how it used to be back home – nothing was open on a Sunday! This came as a bit of a shock to Gamze: “Where are the Clubs? No Clubs?? What? The Markets aren’t open either? WHAT???” Fortunately The Lamm was open last night. It’s the only pub in town and they have good food and plenty to drink! Usually they’re only open Thursday through Saturday evenings, but they were open last night because of a football game. YAY! The owners of The Lamm are absolute Dolls and they’re very supportive of Kunstort ELEVEN ArtSpace. #kunstortELEVENartspace

So Gamze, Jaime, and I went to The Lamm. We had tons of laughs and the food and drink made everything better. I even tried Goulash for the first time! YUM!!!! I didn’t even know what it was. The owner told me that Goulash is a highly seasoned Hungarian soup or stew of meat and vegetables, flavored with paprika. De-Lish!! And it came with a side of Swabian noodles! Oh Baby!!

While we were there I introduced myself to a couple sitting nearby and invited them to The Red Sofa Artist Talk tonight. They in turn invited us to a Beer Fest next weekend. It’s a big block party put on by the village Firemen – it’s right in front of their Station, and they’ll have a pig roast, and beer, and some beer, and some more beer……YAY!! It pays to be friendly!!! LOL

As for The Red Sofa Artist Talk: That’s where some of the Artists in Residence discuss their work and ideas, and what influence their time at Kunstort has had on their creative journey. Tonight’s featured Artists are Jeong Soo Lim, a Performance/ Installation/Film Artist from Korea; Rochyne Delaney McNulty, a Performance/Installation Artist from Great Britain; and Hui Huang, a Film/Digital Artist from China.

My Red Sofa Artist Talk isn’t until July 16th. I’ll be sharing the Sofa with Ki Dong Kwon, a very talented Painter from South Korea.

Tonight’s Talk should be interesting!

I’ll keep you posted!
